People considering investments in Brazil have been offered assurances that the country will be ready on time for the World Cup.

Brazil is hosting the 2014 Fifa World Cup and has in the past attracted warnings that construction on the 12 stadia needed for the tournament will not be completed by 2013.

Jerome Valcke, the Fifa general secretary, last month claimed that the country still had a lot of work to do to deliver on its promises.

However, Brazils sports minister, Orlando Silva has hit back at these suggestions, claiming that by the Confederations Cup in June 2013, ten of the stadia will be ready, with the work expected to finish on the remaining two by the end of that year.

“It is certain that Brazil is much more attentive to the preparations for the World Cup than Fifa. And this attention will persist until the very last day of the World Cup, because we want to have a very successful event,” Mr Silva said.
